The latest numbers are in.........

Usually when I am taking Madelynn for the dreaded weight check I blog about my expectations and leave the doctor's office bitterly broken hearted. Not wanted to sing the same tune and hoping to change history I chose not to blog about it prior to the visit. Actually all three kids had their annual physical Monday and strange things occurred.

We'll start with Kaitlynn she came in at 3'11" tall and 47 lbs. Not really a big surprise until the doctor told me she was in the 25% for her weight and 10% for her height. I knew she was thin but I thought she was rather tall for her age and come to find out she is short.

Then we find out that she needs to see an optometrist. I just gave the doctor a blank stare. The initial eye exam shows her right eye to be 20/40 and possibly something wrong with it. It sounds like no big deal but when Daddy is blind as a bat without contacts and Mommy you name it and her eyes have it. I can't even get contacts. So it makes Phil and I a little nervous. But we will see what an advance exam discovers.

Next we have Jackson, he was 3'10" (yes only an inch shorter than Kaitlynn) and 52 lbs(3lbs more than Kaitlynn). He is the big winner 80% for weight and 60% for height. The only thing I need to do is keep a better eye on what he is eating. His BMI was at the highest range to still be considered normal. So I need to just make sure that when he is eating more, it is healthy.

He is starting soccer in about two weeks and then wants me to sign him up for basketball. Once he gets into a routine of practice and games his body will change again. Right now I believe if Jackson stayed on his current path the doctor would be concerned. I am hoping Jackson just finds something he is good at and enjoys.

Finally, there is Madelynn. She was the shock of the day. When we last visited the doctor a few months back she was less than 26 lbs.  I was so discouraged I was not looking forward to this visit. But I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO WRONG!! With all the excitement she could muster she JUMPED on the scale. She was so wiggly the scale wouldn't register. I saw where the numbers were headed. I finally said, "Madelynn FREEZE!"

Miraculously there was just enough freeze in her for the scale to register once. 27.8 lbs!!!!! My knees almost buckled me to the ground. During the summer, she gained over a pound and a half. To most this is no big deal, most days not even mentioning. For Madelynn it is like winning the lottery. Before Summer she gained that same amount in 10 months.

She topped off at 3 feet tall. These numbers put her back on the chart!!! She was 20% for weight and 25% for height. I was speechless. I almost cried when I called Phil as we were leaving the doctor's office. The days I sat and cried because she was in the less than 5% or I was trying to feed her and she refused are still in the recent past but I hope this is the beginning of a new journey.

Over all the doctor was very pleased. Not as please at Momma.......

TTFN~
