This week

My children have had the joy of going to Vacation Bible School (VBS) this week. I was a little nervous for them and they were too. So far things are going well...that is except for my daily routine for work.

For starters, I am working everyday this week as VBS is everyday this week. Then we have my morning schedule. In order to get myself ready, my kids ready, feed them a healthy breakfast (scrambled eggs, toast, fruit) that is instead of filling them with sugar, make the 40-45 minute drive and still get all my hours in for the week I am getting up at 5:30 in the morning. The things we do for our kids.

Tuesday morning was ridiculous because each of them got a little crazy with their breakfast. Madelynn crammed so much cantaloupe in her mouth that the cantaloupe juice had no place to go but out her mouth all down her clothes. Can't blame a girl for loving her fruit. Katie and Jack had a fight with their cups of milk and lost. I thought I was going to lose it before we got out the door.

The rides to work in the morning are usually my personal time for just me. This week it has been drowned out by the sounds of Cars, Finding Nemo, Maddie singing, Katie and Jack fighting and then tattle tailing on each other. By the time I was getting to work I was exhausted.

Oh but the best part was that I was getting to the office at or before 8am. VBS did not start until 9am. This meant I had three little munchkins in my office for about an hour. I was smart enough to go to the dollar store a few weeks back and buy new crayons, coloring books and reading books to help pass the time. Believe it or not I did get a few things done. But so did they.

Over the last few weeks of school Katie was bringing home some of the best art work. Some of it qualified just because it made me laugh. I decided I would decorate my office door with it. It would remind me everyday why I go to work and yes they are worth every penny.

When the kids saw the door they felt it was not decorated enough so each day they have been making more things for the door. I thought I would share what my door at work looks like.

I know we aren't supposed to wish our life away but, I will be so glad next week to enjoy my drives to work alone I might just have to do it in silence to truly appreciate my only time alone, a few days a week.

Exit stage left.............

After 9+ years of service at my current job I will be walking out of the building one final time Friday afternoon. I have accepted a job at the church my parents belong to in their finance department. This will be a great new journey and a true leap of faith on my behalf.

I knew one day we would turn down the road to better things with everything we have experienced with Madelynn. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect the change to happen so quickly or for things to fall into place as if they always belonged there. So needless to say I am absolutely thrilled to start this new journey.

However, I am very sad to be leaving my Plaza family. I won't be passing the contract sales department and hear, "cheese please" or "woo-hoo". There will be no walking up to say good morning to "Maw-Maw". I will miss seeing "Paw-Paw" in the morning and hearing stories about his grandson. I looked forward to calling Susan Monday morning and telling her some crazy story about something the kids did before I placed my order with her. The laughter was always the best medicine for whatever ailed you.

These were just a few of the things that helped make the ugliness of the world melt away and remind you that their really are good people in the world. These good people could always make you laugh even on some of my darkest days. I will miss them terribly.

Most of all I believe I will miss Bill Sr. He is a man with a heart of gold and someone who truly cares about his employees. Every day he expected 110% of you but he always came back and reminded you how much he appreciated you. Running a company is not easy and making tough decision is not for the weak. I truly appreciated the job for so many years. I hope my replacement sees the good man in him as they take over my duties.

Farewell Plaza Family.........

Good-Bye Mama Kay

The last 5 days have been pretty busy but also very sad. Due to some complications my friend from work has fallen into a coma and is beyond recovery. Her children are all coming together this weekend to say a final farewell and turn all of the machines off Monday. See previous post here. I have cried a lot over the last 36 hours and today at work realized how much I will miss my friend.

My hope is that her family finds peace in her passing and I know in my heart God is waiting for her with open arms. Her husband passed away about 25 years ago, I am sure he is waiting for her. Good-bye Mama Kay I will miss our morning chats.

update on Mama K

Found out about an hour ago the surgery went well. We will know in the next 24 hours how she responds to everything. Her family has been very kind to let us know. Thanks to those that prayed.

Mama K

I have never posted much about work or the people I work with. However today is an exception.

Some of you already know this but I share an office with the owner's secretary and the general manager. I have almost always been the youngest one in the entire office area. The general manager reminds me of my brother sometimes and the secretary is a lot like my grandmother back home. I have shared this office with them for about three years and it has always made for interesting days.

The secretary has been such a kind lady. I believe she has a heart of gold. She needed work done in her house and Phil did it for her. She has a grandson a few years older than my son and she sends me clothes and toys that used to be his. If it wasn't for her I have no idea how I would have clothed my son some seasons.

Lucky enough to be semi-retired the secretary only worked three days a week. Personally I think she worked just to have bingo money. But who am I too judge. She told me about a test she had to have. Because she has a pace-maker she had to have this test done at the hospital. That was last Thursday. Sometime this morning she goes in for open heart surgery. She is the mother of six, traditional Catholic family, and all of her children came home to be with her. I know all about growing up in a Catholic family. We would occasionally joke about that.

Conditions for her are going to be rough. If she pulls through it will be a long recovery. Something we are very familiar with. However, I am not sure she will ever return to work. It makes me very sad. I will miss my friend.

Monday, at work, I had to take care of some things she usually handles. I went to her desk and pulled open the drawer to get a pen. There inside was a button pin that read 'I survived catholic school' it made me laugh. She is in God's hands now and we will see what God has in store for her later today.
